PRESIDENT'S REPORT:

It is hard to believe that we have just completed our first year as the Central Corydon Community Centre.  This first year has truly been a learning experience for all of us.
Keeping in mind our purpose for being is to provide a broad range of recreational and leisure activities for persons of all ages resident within our designated area, the Centre is moving forward with a model that emphasizes  1) people  2) programs 3) facilities
Over the past year we have completed a community needs survey in collaboration with Bridgeman Collaborative  Architects. Two things that came out of the needs survey was priority should be given to ice sports and a new gymnasium.
An opportunity has presented itself in regards to a new gymnasium project at Queenston School.  The Queenston School gymnasium committee with representation from the Central Corydon Community Centre has embarked on a fund raising drive to raise approximately $450,000 to increase the square footage of the proposed new Queenston School gymnasium by an additional 800 square feet  (WSD1 has committed to a 4000 square foot facility to be built in 2013) to meet our community needs.
The committee’s goal is to have a community/school facility that will meet our needs for years to come.  This project offers a level of co-operation that eliminates the need for a very costly duplication of facilities and offers a new model for a community/school agreement.  This is definitely a win/win situation for both the school and the community.
As we move forward we will be starting the process of community consultation on the future of the Central Corydon Community Centre.  We are committed to the development of all three of our sites (Sir John Franklin, River Heights, and Crescentwood) and other opportunities that allow for the growth of our ice sport programs.
Below please find a handbill for the Queenston School gymnasium project.  We hope that you can offer both your moral and financial support for this project.  We expect to have a firm handle on the cost to expand and change the existing facilities at our three sites very soon.  We want to assure you that contributing to the Queenston School gymnasium project will be a step towards helping meet our overall facilities vision for our neighbourhood.
Please note our first AGM will be Wednesday, May 30, 2012, 7:00 p.m. at our River Heights site.

Kick-boxing program revived
Article by:  Jim Bender

"I was looking for space to rent at a community club so I could run my own program. There was a hole here for coaching the boxing program as well. So, I’ll be helping out with the boxing program as well as I running my own kickboxing program.” -  Crescentwood Boxing club instructor Lindsey Hawkes

Annual General Meeting
Will be held on May 30th, 7pm at the River Heights Site (1370 Grosvenor).

A 2006 Crescentwood Grizzlies City Championship ring has been turned it and we'd love to get it back to it's owner. It looks like he was a Defensive End; #73. Please call 452-9844 if it's yours, or you know whose it might be. Thanks!
